In the Mind
Dates: 7 Feb – 10 April 2019
At: The FreeSpace Gallery, Kentish Town
In the Mind is an illustration exhibition exploring mental health by artists Elsbeth van der Poel and Kathryn Watson.
Through their unique drawing styles each artist has created a fantastical world of monsters, friends, worries and hope based on their own lived experience.
Both artists combine their experience of depression, anxiety and Borderline Personality Disorder to carve out dreamlike realities that both delve into darkness and pull us back into the light through deeply personal works that provoke existential questions around illness, recovery and resilience.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The exhibition has been designed to raise public awareness of art therapy (also known as art psychotherapy) and foster a wider understanding of its benefits for both physical and mental health. The exhibition is a showcase of art therapy images with contributions from artists who have found art-making therapeutic, as well as art therapy practitioners and their clients. It is a chance for people to share their stories as well as sell their work.
