Personal Statement

Vicky Lysons
Art Psychotherapist, MA

Vicky is an HCPC registered Art Psychotherapist based in North London. She currently works with children and young people in mainstream schools and hospice settings and with older adults in the community, facilitating individual and group art psychotherapy.

Holding the art making process at the core, Vicky’s therapeutic approach is person-centred and psychodynamic, and richly informed by a feminist philosophy. Vicky provides a calm, creative and non-judgemental environment in which clients can safely explore their difficulties and experiences, bringing a stronger sense of meaning and autonomy into their lives.

Vicky also has experience working in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, and is a founding member of creating links, a charitable organisation which supports children and communities experiencing trauma, displacement and difference through creative workshops with key adults.

Statement about own art making:
In addition to her therapeutic practice, Vicky is actively engaged with her own art making process. Using Indian ink to make immediate, indelible and spontaneous marks on paper, Vicky responds to emerging images and themes in order to explore the world of her unconscious.
