Personal Statement

Kate Angus, MA
Art Psychotherapist

I am a client centred Art Psychotherapist and am passionate about the value and benefits of art making. Within my sessions I aim to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for clients to explore and reflect on their inner world. Together we use the art made in sessions as a way to make sense of the clients past and present experiences, to improve their personal and emotional wellbeing and understand their sense of identity.

Areas of Special Interest
- Abuse
- Adult Mental Health
- Bereavement
- Family Therapy
- Forensic and Prison Services
- Individual Private Therapy
- Personality Disorders
- Psychosis and Schizophrenia
- Trauma

I work non-directionally and use a variety of ways in an attempt to engage patients including working on images alongside them. Art Psychotherapy sessions are a shared and equal experience between myself and the client.

My approach to sessions is psychodynamic. I am particularly interested in conscious and unconscious processes and the impact they have not just on a clients’ identity, behaviour and attitude but also the effect this has on their own interpersonal relations.

I have worked extensively within adult forensic settings and adult mental health settings, providing therapy to clients of varying diagnosis and challenging behaviors including psychosis, personality disorders, self-harm, historical abuse and neglect and anger issues.

I am a fully qualified Art Psychotherapist working in the Leeds and York area. I am a registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a full member of the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT).

I can offer individual and group sessions.
