Fi Grainger, MA
Integrative Arts Psychotherapist

*Please note that Fi can now offer online sessions. Contact her for full details.

Fi an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist, registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a member of the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT). She practices in North London and is currently working in an NHS community mental health setting, seeing individuals and groups with psychotic and behavioural disorders. She also facilitates groups for older adults and people living with dementia.

Areas of special interest:
• Older Adults and Dementia
• Psychosis
• Behavioural Disorders
• Depression
• Learning Disabilities
• Self-Esteem issues

Adopting a flexible approach to work, she integrates many theoretical modalities and different art forms into her practice. She works in a person-centred way, co-creating a strong therapeutic alliance with clients, to ensure that they can experience a therapy that is tailor made for them. She believes that this is vital so clients can feel invested in the process of finding insight and healing.

She uses psychodynamic and attachment theories to help understand the impact of early relationship dysfunction and trauma. Adverse life experiences are often buried in the unconscious and the arts can act as a conduit to bring them into the light.

Art therapy is especially useful when working with cognitively impaired and non-verbal clients. Play, music and movement can be used to great effect when working with this client group. The arts can provide a brilliant language for communicating feelings that cannot be verbalised. Fi is passionate about working in this intuitive and attuned way. The therapy can be ‘in the moment’, spontaneous and exciting.

The arts can stimulate free thinking, imagination, creativity and confidence. Sharing this therapeutic experience in a positive, non-judgemental way can make a client feel heard, understood and validated.
